BAUER OD1N- Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS BAUER OD1N?

BAUER OD1N is the most revolutionary line of equipment ever introduced to the sport of hockey. WHY WAS BAUER OD1N CREATED?

BAUER OD1N was developed to create hockey equipment that provides a significant on-ice advantage that can be scientifically proven. Bauer Hockey's industry-leading Research, Design and Development team in St Jerome, Quebec was challenged to create the future of hockey equipment, removing the typical restrictions such as materials, cost and commercialization process.

HOW LONG WAS BAUER OD1N IN DEVELOPMENT?

BAUER OD1N was more than two years in development.

WHAT ATHLETES DID BAUER HOCKEY WORK WITH FOR BAUER OD1N?

The BAUER OD1N product was developed alongside some of the game's best players including Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Nicklas Backstrom, Alex Ovechkin, Claude Giroux and Henrik Lundqvist. All six players played instrumental roles in the development process and continue to work with the company to fine tune the product in advance of international competition in February.

WHAT IS THE BENEFIT FOR PLAYERS WEARING BAUER OD1N?

BAUER HOCKEY UNVEILS THE FUTURE OF HOCKEY EQUIPMENT

Bauer Hockey, the world's leading manufacturer of ice hockey equipment, today unveiled BAUER OD1N, the most revolutionary line of equipment ever introduced to the sport of hockey. The equipment, which took more than two years to develop and has never been seen before, was specifically designed for a select few of the world's most elite-level athletes. Those athletes are expected to begin wearing the new product this month and during international play in February.

The BAUER OD1N product line includes a re-imagined hockey skate, a fully personalized protective body suit and an ultra lightweight, customized goal pad constructed with materials never before used in hockey. Each of the products was designed to provide a significant on-ice performance advantage that is scientifically proven.

"We challenged our Research, Design and Development team in St Jerome, Quebec to create the 'concept car' of hockey equipment," said Kevin Davis, CEO and President, Bauer Performance Sports. "We asked them, 'What if?' What if we took away all the limitations we normally have, like materials, cost and commercialization process and focused solely on creating equipment that can be scientifically proven to make players better. The team focused on this challenge for more than two years and the result is BAUER OD1N."

The BAUER OD1N product was developed alongside some of the game's best players including Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Nic Backstrom, Alex Ovechkin, Claude Giroux and Henrik Lundqvist. All six players played instrumental roles in the development process and continue to work with the company to fine tune the product in advance of international competition in February.

"Today's hockey equipment is already so good, that it's tough to imagine that there is still another leap to take as far as technology, but that's exactly what Bauer did," said Jonathan Toews, Chicago Blackhawks and Team Canada. "As a hockey player, the last thing you want to do on the ice is worry about your equipment. With this new equipment, it's not even an after-thought because you feel like you're not wearing anything."

Lundqvist, the lone goaltender selected by Bauer to take part in the project, has been wearing the BAUER OD1N goal pads since late November. The New York Rangers netminder is once again expected to be the starting goaltender for Team Sweden in February.

"They are so much lighter than the old pads, you feel faster and you have more energy," Lundqvist said. "For me, when I play the game, it's all about quickness and reaction time. To have a pad that helps me in those areas of my game is a major advantage for me. "

Highlights of the BAUER OD1N Product Include:

BAUER OD1N Skate

The BAUER OD1N skate is the lightest hockey skate ever created and features the first ever fully composite holder. Measurable On-Ice Performance Benefit: By wearing the BAUER OD1N skate, a player is not only faster, but saves more than 1,000 pounds of lifted weight over the course of a regulation hockey game. Other features of the skate include:

-Lightest skate to ever be developed. Nearly a third the weight of previously lightest Bauer skate. -Customized carbon composite blade holder creates lightest possible design and increases overall energy transfer, providing players with a quicker first step. -Re-designed and engineered boot construction optimizes overall weight reduction

-Boot features lightweight CURV® Composite material for extreme reduction in weight and increased support.

-Internal boot construction features proprietary materials never before used in skate development.

BAUER OD1N Protective Body Suit

The BAUER OD1N Protective Body Suit is comprised of a two-piece base layer system with ultra lightweight exposed protective pieces, creating a level of mobility, protection and weight reduction never seen in hockey. Measurable On-Ice Performance Benefit: In a 50-foot sprint (blue line to blue line), a player wearing the BAUER OD1N Protective Suit will cross the finish line nearly a foot faster compared to traditional protective equipment. Other features include:

-Reduction of more than four (4) pounds of overall weight – more than one-third the weight carried by players wearing traditional protective equipment.

-Each protective suit is created using an optical body scan of each athlete for fully customized fit and protection. -Two-piece base layer system integrated with internal padding traditionally found on the inside of protective equipment (shoulder pads, elbow pads, shin guards).

-Protective pieces developed from proprietary blend of composite material and high-end foams to dramatically reduce weight while increasing mobility and protection.

-Unlike traditional materials used in today's protective equipment, the high-end foams and composites can be machine customized to each individual player.

BAUER OD1N Goal Pad

The BAUER OD1N Goal Pad is the first goal pad to utilize an outer foam layer, creating the lightest elite-level pad ever made. In addition to its lightweight properties, the pad features fully customized rebound control tailored to the specific needs of the athlete. Measurable On-Ice Performance Benefit: By wearing the new OD1N goal pad, a goalie can move from the goal line to the top of the crease a full inch faster than when he is wearing traditional pads. A goalie also saves more than 180 pounds of lifted weight over the course of a regulation hockey game. Other features of the pad include:

-More than one-third reduction in overall pad weight. The lightest elite-level pad ever created at four pounds.

-Ability to customize rebound control by inserting different foams in strategic areas of the pad, providing custom rebound control unavailable in any other pad.

-Outer pad shell comprised of one, seamless foam cover developed from materials never used before in goal pad construction. Traditional pads utilize an outer layer comprised of multiple parts sewn together.

BAUER OD1N derives from the word Odin, the Russian word for one. Odin is also the Norse god of battle, wisdom and learning.

Although not yet available in stores, Bauer Hockey expects to utilize several of the advanced technologies created for the BAUER OD1N products in future consumer product launches.

Bauer World 2014

Bauer Hockey recently concluded its annual industry-leading BauerWorld event, during which it unveiled its next-generation of revolutionary technologies and product innovations.

In addition, attendees were able to speak firsthand with several of the company's key product developers and designers to receive an in-depth explanation of the extensive R&D programs that created the advanced technologies featured in upcoming product lines.

"With more than 600 attendees from around the globe, BauerWorld 2014 was the largest and most expansive yet," said Kevin Davis, President and CEO of Bauer Hockey. "This year we provided our partners with more than a chance to try the latest products and learn from our experts. We also provided a behind-the-scenes look into our performance sports platform to showcase our commitment to Research and Development and engineering excellence, which demonstrated to our long-standing partners and those new to our family exactly how we continue to create innovative products year after year."

The highlight of the week-long event was the introduction of Bauer's Spring 2014 product line up. Bauer unveiled new revolutionary technologies and its latest product advancements, including FLEXORB, 37.5TM technology, the BAUER SUPREME TOTALONE MX3 skate and the BAUER NEXUS 8000 skate.

BAUER NEXUS SKATE LINE:

The new BAUER NEXUS skate line combines state-of-the-art technologies with an authentic look and feel. FLEXORB offers exceptional protective properties and flexibility and will debut in Bauer Hockey's latest line of protective base layer. FLEXORB is strategically placed in vulnerable areas, such as the clavicle or lower rib area, to complement other equipment. The new BAUER NEXUS stick line, with its TRU mid-kick flex, is ideal for the player looking for a balanced feel with a quick, effortless release. Bauer Performance Sports First to Deliver 37.5™ Technology to Hockey

Bauer Performance Sports and Cocona Natural Technologies unveiled 37.5 ™ technology for hockey, an advanced fast-drying moisture management process that will debut in Bauer Hockey's base layer, training apparel and protective equipment. Fabric infused with this revolutionary technology delivers an unprecedented level of performance, allowing athletes to spend more energy on their game.

"Athletes have come to trust our products for the innovative technologies that elevate their game, and this exclusive agreement positions us as the first company to be delivering this innovation to the team sports we serve," said Kevin Davis, President and Chief Executive Officer, Bauer Performance Sports. "As we expand this partnership, we look forward to delivering 37.5 technology into other sports across our platform."

Apparel with 37.5 technology dries up to six times faster than competitive products. While other fabrics simply wick moisture around the garment, trapping humidity near the athlete's skin, 37.5 technology uses body heat to evaporate moisture and release sweat from under equipment. This revolutionary advancement adds a new moisture management system to base layer and protective equipment that helps regulate an athlete's body temperature and humidity level next to the skin like never before. This helps maximize performance by directing more of a player's energy on the game, not temperature management.

"This is an exciting launch for those of us who love hockey," said Jeff Bowman, Chief Executive Officer, Cocona. "Bauer is the first to take the 37.5 technology from the outdoor sports world where it is well established to team sports, where it can provide a competitive advantage."

Cocona Natural Technologies is a global leader in providing innovative performance technologies from natural sources to the apparel, glove and footwear markets. Bauer Performance Sports and Cocona have an exclusive multi-year partnership. Through this agreement, Bauer Performance Sports plans to integrate 37.5 technology into training apparel, base layer and protective equipment across its platform.

The material is easily cleaned and rejuvenates after each wash. 37.5 technology will be launched in new BAUER base layer, team apparel and elite protective equipment. These products will be available in retail stores this spring.

Bauer Performance Sports, G-Form LLC Announce Exclusive Partnership

Bauer Performance Sports Ltd. has announced a multi-year partnership with G-Form LLC, a recognized leader in the design and development of impact protection for elite athletes and consumer products. This exclusive partnership will utilize patented technologies developed by both companies to launch FLEXORB, an innovative new material to be used in numerous protective products across the Bauer Performance Sports platform.

"We're excited about this new partnership because our consumers demand state-of-the-art technologies and by working with G-Form we will once again be able to elevate player protection across all of our sports," said Kevin Davis, President and CEO of Bauer Performance Sports.

"FLEXORB, which is exclusive to Bauer Performance Sports, is a next generation technology that advances player protection without sacrificing comfort and mobility." FLEXORB will debut in Bauer Hockey's latest line of protective base layer and the company's newest elite helmet, the BAUER RE-AKT 100, both of which were unveiled this week at the company's annual BauerWorld event.

BauerWorld is a multi-sport week-long product and apparel showcase with more than 600 of the world's leading retailers.

The new line of base layer features FLEXORB material strategically placed in vulnerable areas such as the clavicle or lower rib area for added protection. In creating FLEXORB, the new base layer provides athletes with exceptional protection, flexibility and durability due to both G-Form and Bauer's patented and proprietary hinging methods, composite structures as well as materials and design elements that allow for unrestrained movements. In the RE-AKT 100, FLEXORB will be utilized in the SUSPEND-TECH 2 liner system, a free-floating suspension liner that moves independently from the inner foam to help reduce excessive movement at impact and manage rotational impacts. The new BAUER base layer and RE-AKT 100 helmet will be available at retail locations throughout the world this spring.

G-Form has developed leading athletic protective products utilizing its Reactive Protection Technology™(RPT™), a soft padded material that stiffens upon impact and absorbs more than 90 percent of the energy transfer. RPT™ is a blend of PORON® XRD, which is currently used in elite BAUER helmets and other protective products, and other proprietary G-Form materials and composites.

"G-Form's partnership with Bauer is the perfect marriage of our cutting edge impact and composite technologies with Bauer's legendary commitment to relentlessly improving performance," said G-Form VP of Innovations Thom Cafaro. "The utilization of G-Form in the new FLEXORB line of products creates a combination of comfort and protection never before possible."
